"NEXUS" is a name which ignites fond memories in the minds of all the old students of Nirmala Bhavan Higher Secondary School. The school - a crowning glory in the history of Travancore has been the Alma mater to many a successful personalities from various walks of life.
2014 being the Golden Jubilee year of the school, NEXUS alumni group spread across the globe decided to join hands to contribute towards quality education to their juniors by installing a state of the art Computer lab. The mission was set. We embarked upon the exciting and at times frustrating journey of amassing funds to realise our dream. The once impossible task of collecting Rs 5 lakhs soon became close to reality with the whole hearted support of Nirmalites. There were moments when every penny counted and every concentrated efforts brought incredible results. Strangers became long time pals the moment we realised that we had bloomed and blossomed under the tutelage of same old sisters and teachers of our Alma mater. Spanning from the 1970's to the late 2010 batches rallied under one banner - NEXUS.
Benevolent hands requesting anonymity came as a surprising shock in this competitive world of self promotion. Shortfalls during the last leg of the journey saw its unassuming pillars Bindoo P (1982),Geetha Gopinath (1986), Aiswarya S (1989) and the mighty strength Preeta Molly Isaac (1979) pitching in with overwhelming vigour and confidence. There were times when we had instinctively knocked every door of Kowdiar, Vellayambalam and Sasthamangalam neighbourhood with a self aassured predisposition that Nirmalite in any of these households will never let us down and we were never wrong. Our brothers who had the good fortune of growing up in this school till 4th standard also joined the noble cause with ample support.
Together we made history by being the first Alumni group of a girls school in Trivandrum to contribute Rs 11 lakhs to the institution which gifted us with wonderful and treasured moments of bliss and harmony. We are proud to be an alumni of Nirmala Bhavan Higher Secondary School, Trivandrum
Dr.Rajasree M S ( Vice Chancellor, Kerala Technical University) presented the keys of the New Computer Lab to the Principal Dr.Sr.Mercy Kunnathupurayidom in an august function held on 31st January 2020 at the school auditorium.

School is a place where young minds discover their own selves.Everyone deserves a good start in life and I believe I have recieved the best one.The long fourteen years I had spent in my school was the most blissful and memorable period of my life.
I spent 14 years of my life in Nirmala Bhavan,it was literally my second home. The lessons I learnt, the experiences I've had, the success and the failures all of it made me the strong person I am. Those who are my best friends today, I met here. The values I hold dear to me was taught here. Nirmala Bhavan was my safe place, my world for 14 years. When you are in school you will never realise the value of it,but the moment you step out to the outside world, that's when you will realise school was our shield and now we are on our own. I am extremely grateful to this school and it's teachers for equipping me with all the skills I needed to face the world.
"Nirmala Bhavan was never a school to me, but a home of love!
The home that taught me that sharing is caring,
The home that taught me that discipline breeds personality,
The home that taught me to dream, and achieve them with sheer hardwork,
The home that taught me that womanhood never had restrictions to learn and grow,
The home that taught me perseverance and benevolence
The home which always stood by my side and felt proud
The home I always want to keep coming..."
In 2010, on my first day at Nirmala, I got lost on my way to class. The maze-like stairways and the ubiquitous shade of brown and peach did nothing to ease my anxiety about being at a place so new and unfamiliar. However, through the decade that followed, not only did I master my way through all the numerous shortcuts, corners and classrooms which had become as familiar as home, but I was also taught to look at the changing world - strange and new - with a spirit of confidence, not fear. Nirmala Bhavan Higher Secondary School shaped my intellect and moral character in the six most formative years of my life, and there are few other entities in my life to whom I owe so much gratitude.
I've grown to believe every academic institution can thrive only on a culture of empathy and solidarity, and this school wins on both of these fronts. The culture of learning through collective action rather than solely individualistic efforts - evident in the emphasis on group activities, discussions and cultural events - has taught me the vitality of being a team player, no matter how difficult it might be. It has built my confidence to face large groups, show initiative and get things done.
Looking back at my first proper experience on the stage, I am convinced I would not have grown into the passionate speaker I am today if it were not for the honest review and constructive criticism I received that day. The network of friends and acquaintances I have built through the numerous inter-school competitions, tournaments, state-level fests and workshops that my school had taken me to, is the support system that now helps me manage the expectations and requirements of university education. This school helped me reap the full advantage of studying in the capital city of Kerala, and I cannot emphasise enough how much this freedom and encouragement to learn from the textbook has moulded my attitude towards and perception of real-world problems. Having seen up close - as well as from afar - several other schools, I can say with conviction that the faculty at this school can lay legitimate claims on their commitment to invest in students not merely as mark-scorers but as individuals looking for skill and personality development. I have seen how the technology-driven teaching method and quality infrastructure on campus function as the perfect aids to teachers with a strong vision for the future generation.
While results and statistics speak volumes about the academic excellence this institution promises, a 5-minute conversation with an alumnus would show anyone that NBHSS goes the extra mile by striving to ensure that they shape valuable human resource that creates tangible good for society. Although valid accusations of nostalgia and personal bias can be made at me, I can assure anyone that this environment of positive reinforcement and growth is what you will also meet on your first visit to the campus. Four years from my exit, when I look at my Alma mater now, I can see that it is in the throes of new beginnings and greater development and that the future beholds great promises for this institution
I wouldn't have grown into the person I am today without Nirmala. Without Jayalekshmi teacher , who taught me in UKG, I perhaps wouldn't have taken up arts at all. She saw the scribbles in my notebook and told my mother that I should take drawing classes. I haven't stopped drawing and designing since. With Nirmala's unflinching support throughout my time there, notably Ancy Sister and Ritty Sister have helped me gain confidence and shaped my beliefs. The school always has a special place in my heart
Nirmala Bhavan, our alma mater had a huge role to play in shaping me up to be the person and the professional that I am today. I discovered my passion for public speaking and numerous other skills, thanks to the opportunities this school gave me. During my 14 years of schooling here, the teachers and sisters of Nirmala have given me more support than I could have ever asked for. We were taught to be humble in our triumphs and learn from our mistakes, all of which translated well, over the years, as great personal attributes in my professional life as well. I am thankful for the teachers and management who always went the extra mile to ensure that we got the best of facilities and coaching! I'll always call myself a Nirmalite and be proud about it!
I am a proud Nirmalite of 2008 batch. This school has gifted me the best of memories and lifetime of learnings. I have learnt and unlearn many things over the 12 years I have spent there. That has helped me to evolve to the best version of myself in both personal and professional life . My key take aways that I got from school life which has always been my life mantra are: 1. Curiosity and eagerness to learn will take you to heights 2. Kindness and compassion will get you your community 3. Ethics can never go outdated.
Nirmala bhavan, more than an alma mater,it was a second home for myself. The initial feeling of being confident and staying postive were taught by the motivated and grateful sisters and teachers. My school life is all about the memories I deeply cherish. The memories of not only the fun, friendship and extracurricular, but also the way it helped me to find my interests. I owe it to my school life. It has made me who I am today. It gave various opportunities to develop not only my scholastic abilities but also the art and sport side.I am and I will always be proud to be a NIRMALITE.
School life is the perfect blend of joy and hardships. It is one of the most beautiful stages of life and I was fortunate to be part of the team Nirmala Bhavan. The valuable teachings and life lessons imparted were so enriching. Remembering all of it, the knowledge and transformation I had is the reason I find myself successful today.
Jai Hind.
My alma mater, Nirmala Bhavan, has seen to it that my batchmates and I feel loved and cared for. Whether it is academics or extra curricular activities like sports, debating, public speaking or other types of interaction and competition, the sisters and staff of Nirmala have inculcated in me the principles of fairness, competition, and humility, qualities so essential for my overall development. I joined Nirmala as a little girl in kindergarten and came out a confident young lady, ready to take on the world. During this wonderful journey I came into contact with wonderful teachers who have made me what I am, with the active support of the school management. No words of gratitude and appreciation will be adequate to describe this great institution.
Nirmala Bhavan .. my alma mater has always been close to my heart.. It is from this benevolent institution that I realised my potential.. I am really privileged to be taught by some stalwart teachers who instilled in me the courage to dream, to face the world out there and to believe in myself.. I am forever indebted to my teachers who paved the way to become what I am today.. And I wish all the budding nirmalites would bring glory and fame and be blessed to fulfill their dreams..
Even after 13 years of completing schooling, the premises of Nirmala still feels like home every single time I climb those stairs leading up to the main ground. The love and encouragement I still receive from my teachers remain to be one of the greatest joys in my life. Our teachers have always gone out of their way to help us participate in various co-curricular activities. The smile and acknowledgement that I get from each staff in the school whenever I see them anywhere only show the fondness they have in their heart for every student who studied in this school.
The nurturing environment in the institution has not only helped me excel academically but also helped me imbibe the spirit of leadership and responsibility at an early age. We know that well begun is half done. Laying strong foundations for someone, be it for their career advancement or character development, is one thing that Nirmala does right. I have always known that my school days have played an irreplaceable role in making me what I am today, as a person and as a professional.
The friendships I have made in this school are for life. It is true that as time progress we meet each other lesser, but whenever we meet, we are still those 10th-standard students who had nothing but love for each other in them. There are uncountable good memories to cherish about school days. Starting from the inter-school fests to hosting nymph fiesta, to all the little quiz contests that we have participated in, to classrooms, to corridors, to sharing food during breaks, everything is still fresh down the memory lane.
Nirmala Bhavan is a close-knit school and I am incredibly grateful for the relationships I made here. I will forever be thankful for my formative years in this school which gave my younger self the right space to bloom.
I'm so greatful to each and everyone in nirmala bhavan family. My teachers , You gave me the strength I needed to take the steps toward my dreams. A heartfelt thank you to all.
Wishing my junior nirmalites for a successful future. Enjoy your life, work hard , success will come to you.
